Truth Summer 2010 Tour...

Coming to a City Near You!

Truth, the nation's largest smoking prevention campaign for youth, kicked off its 11^th annual nationwide summer tour on Friday, June 25, with tour stops all across America.  The Truth campaign is run and funded by Legacy, a national public health foundation, with the mission of keeping young people from smoking and helping all smokers quit.  The Truth campaign extends its mission to educate young people about the adverse health and social effects of tobacco use by traveling throughout the United States this summer.  The "crew members" consist of charismatic young adults selected from a national pool of applicants who will interact with teens across the country along the stops, which primarily include popular summer musical and sporting events.

This summer's tour consists of two different crews and their signature orange "truth trucks" which, together, will make more than 60 stops.  One crew will spend the summer traveling with the Vans Warped Tour, an annual summer rock festival.  The second truth crew will appear at a number of different events, including the AST Dew Tour (an action sports tour), the 6^th annual Afro-Punk Festival (celebrating music, skating, and BMX riding), as well as a number of other spontaneous appearances at popular teen-oriented events and venues.

 "...Touring gives us the opportunity to reach teens directly in their own environment, with our important life-saving messages...," said Dr. Cheryl Healton, President and CEO of Legacy.  At most tour stops, a natural gathering place is created around the truth truck and zone. In the zone, crew members hold fashion shows, teach DJ lessons, play games, and distribute truth "gear" - fashionable and trendy items reflecting tobacco messages. The relaxed atmosphere provides a great environment for crew members to discuss tobacco issues in a non-threatening way.
