ANNE ARUNDEL County Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program

Cessation Classes

Free cessation classes are offered to people 18 and older who live, work or attend school in Anne Arundel County. Classes meet once a week for 6-8 weeks and are offered at sites throughout the county. The classes are based on the American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking Curriculum. Each participant is provided with tobacco education materials and cessation tools, and may receive free nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum, lozenges, Zyban or Chantix).

The Office of Minority Health of the Anne Arundel County Department of Health works with Restoration Community Development Corporation (RCDC) to offer cessation classes specifically for African American County residents. Cessation Information

Callers to the Anne Arundel County Department of Health's Learn To Live Line can request free health education materials on a variety of topics including tobacco cessation. Current tobacco cessation kits include a Quit Smoking Kit, an Xtreme Quitting Kit for young men, a Power to Quit Smoking Kit for African Americans and an I Quit Kit for teens. Call 410-222-7979.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health's Web site offers information on tobacco prevention and cessation for adults, youth and parents. The self-help cessation booklets Change of Habit, I Quit and Xtreme Quitting are available for free download at www.aahealth.org.

Smoking Stinks

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health's anti-tobacco Web site for teens provides new quitting help. The site features I Quit, which helps teens kick the habit online. Designed to look like a doodle-packed notebook, I Quit provides easy-to-follow steps to quit smoking and stay smoke-free. Teens can also download a printable version of the program at http://www.smokingstinks-aaco.org/
