Community
- Faith-Based Tobacco Coalition meets bi-monthly on the fourth Thursday. Currently we have 25 members representing ten churches. The coalition makes recommendations for programming, helps with dispersing information into the community, and educates the community about the ill effects of tobacco use. The coalition also plans to assist with the ice cream socials for all elementary schools participating in the Pennant Coloring Contest. They will also help judge the 5th Grade Tobacco Pennant Contest.
- Hotel Visits: Partnered with the Environmental Health Department to distribute Smoke-Free Materials and Window Clings on 3-10-08.
- Wellness Coalition Meeting: Partnering with the Wellness Coalition to get information out in the community about smoking cessation resources and the Quitline on 3-20-08.

- Annual Youth Summit: On April 4-5, 2008, we held our Third Youth Summit. Vendors from many different agencies, community groups and faith-based organizations set up anti-alcohol, tobacco and other drug displays. Motivational speakers, including a gentleman who nearly died three times from tobacco smoking but lived to tell about it, were among some of the guest speakers.
- Public Service Announcements (PSA): Ten entries were submitted for anti-alcohol, tobacco and marijuana messages for all grade levels. Six won cash awards for their PSA.
- Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Newsletters: Are created every two months and distributed via email and through all meetings and speaking engagements in the county.
- SafeHomes Newsletter: Created and distributed the quarterly newsletter to over 400 families who have signed the SafeHomes Pledge.
- Annual SafeHomes Pledge: Through partnering with the Board of Education, County Council PTA's, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and our office, we were launching the SafeHomes Pledge during the month of April for the second year.
- QACTV:
- Created Youth Summit Commercials for the event with Pastor Dan Southern
- Created TV Commercial for the Annual Law Enforcement vs. Alumni Basketball Game with Maryland State Police, Lt. Dwayne Boardman, QAC Sheriff Hofmann and several High School Alumni Members.
- QAC TV filmed the Law Enforcement vs. High School Alumni Basketball Game
- Placed information about Youth Summit and Law Enforcement vs. High School Alumni Basketball Game on QAC TV for scrolling
- QAC TV filmed many aspects of the Youth Summit, including the Town Hall Meeting
- PSA's are being aired on QAC TV
- Newspapers: Numerous articles in Star Democrat, Bay Times, Record Observer and the Kent Island Update on the Youth Summit, PSA Winners, Law Enforcement vs. High School Alumni Basketball Game, Kick Butts Day, Project 1200 etc.
- Annual: Mother's Day Banquet Celebration: To be held May 10, 2008
- "Service Superstar Award": The Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention Office received the "Service Superstar Award" from the Local Management Board (Community Partnerships for Children and Families) for outstanding prevention efforts in QAC!
School
- Wye River Upper School: Spoke to 40 high school students and two teachers about preventing tobacco use.
- Annual Tobacco Pennant Coloring Contest: Distributed Pennants to Elementary Schools on 3-11-08.
- CC! Matapeake Elementary School (MES) Presentation: A presentation was made to students at MES on 3-12-08.
- Annual SADD Conference: On 3-14-08 registered two adults and four youth for the June conference in Arizona.
- Sudlersville Middle School Dance: Assisted with the Students Against Starting Smoking dance for Kick Butts Day on 4-4-08. Set up displays, coordinated and played anti-tobacco trivia activities w/students.
- Annual Project 1200: For the second year, the Nursing Students @ Queen Anne's County High School partnered with our office to promote Kick Butts Day events: They created 1200 Finger's Banner; 1200 Red Flags were displayed on the front lawn of QACHS along with a board indicating that 1200 lives are lost daily to tobacco related causes; displayed 1200 balloons; wore Project 1200 black and red T-Shirts; created red T-Shirts for Project 1200; held a breakfast for the Nursing Students.
- Annual Pre-Prom Kick Butts Day Assembly: Held a pre-prom assembly starring guest speaker "Meshelle" at QACHS & KIHS for all students in Grades 11-12 on 4-18-08.
- Annual Play-It-Safe Campaign: Distributed booklets to both high schools for graduating seniors.
Enforcement
- Annual Law Enforcement vs. Alumni Basketball Game: This is our second year partnering with Law enforcement to improve relationships between the community and law enforcement while addressing the anti-tobacco message to all who participate. Hosted by radio station 92Q Jams Street Team and the Urban Leadership Institute.
- Tobacco Vendor Training: On April 28, 29 and 30, 2008 Tobacco Vendors will be trained by QAC Sheriff Hofmann.
- Tobacco & Alcohol Vendors: Vendors will be trained on May 15, 208 by Sheriff Hofmann at a dinner held at Fisherman's Crab Deck.
- Compliance Checks: The QAC Sheriff's Office will conduct compliance checks immediately follow vendor training to assure compliance with tobacco laws.
Cessation
- Freedom From Smoking Training: One staff member attended in March.
- Face-to-Face 1-1 sessions: Numerous sessions are held weekly with individual clients.
- Doctor & Dentist Offices: We mailed information about Smoking Cessation Classes that are being offered to doctor and dentist offices in QAC.
- Paul Reed Guitars: Held a Smoking Cessation Group for 25 employees. Offered Chantix and Nicoderm patches to employees.
- Cessation Classes: Held four separate Smoking Cessation Classes lasting six weeks each in two different locations (Jan.-Feb. and March-April). Plan to hold two additional six week sessions at two different locations May-June.
- Family Support Center: Held Smoking Cessation group for two members.
- TAP/TEG: Met with a student on 4-16-08 who got caught smoking in school.
- Paid Ads: We have continuous ads in the Record Observer and Bay Times advertising Cessation Classes.
